To All of Our Supporters, Thank You!
As
we head into the weekend, the Staff and Board of Directors of the
Vineyard Conservation Society wish to offer a simple "thank you" to all
of the members who have shown their support over the past few weeks. The
response to our Fall Appeal letter
has been overwhelming - a truly heartwarming show of enthusiasm for
protecting the Island's land and water, and to that end, the advocacy,
education, and legal defense work of VCS. Thank you!

However,
being a powerful voice for Vineyard conservation requires more than
just financial resources. As a membership organization, it is the
ability to speak for a broad and diverse coalition of concerned citizens
that gives our public testimony credibility.
To grow that all-important support base, we've taken on the following
challenge: starting today, the 20th, let's find 20 new members by 2020.
This holiday season, please help us expand the VCS family by giving a
gift membership or, if you haven't already, by joining yourself –
together, we can do this!
Ancient Ways & Current Events
One small example of the sort of public testimony referenced above is this week's letter
to the MV Commission in support of the Town of Tisbury's request to
have two ancient ways designated as protected under the MVC's Special
Ways District of Critical Planning Concern.
Their protection is (hopefully) the culmination of a decades-long wait.
However, the timing is coincidentally fortuitous: the ancient paths in
question are the planned location of our February 9 Winter Walk, a hike
on the interior side of Lambert's Cove Road, and perhaps a dive into the
history of Grey's Raid,
the Revolutionary War-era pillaging of Tisbury. Our January 12 Walk
will be nearby as well, as we visit Pilot Hill Farm on the opposite side
of Lambert's Cove Road.
In a final Winter Walks note, thanks to all who joined us for the Walk & Create outing to Featherstone and the Southern Woodlands. We hope you'll enjoy the photos from the event, and the rest of the holiday season!
